i have about 1500 songs and its taking up 13 GB and someone told me it shouldnt take up that much space.

I have a My Book Western Digital 1 Tera Byte External Hard Drive, and a Fat 160 gb PS3. I was wondering, if I open up the the hard drive, and put the 1000 gb hard drive in the ps3, will it work perfectly? Am I risking anything?
